
Faculty Position in Mechanics and Structure Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Victoria, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in Mechanics, Dynamics or Structure Engineering. Candidates for the position must have a PhD in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, and a demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching, research, graduate student supervision, verbal and written communication, and collaboration with colleagues with engineering and non-engineering backgrounds. Candidates must be registered as a professional engineer or be eligible for and committed to registration. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students, establish an active research program, and participate in the academic affairs of the university. In addition the successful applicant will have an opportunity to play a leadership role in the development of a new Civil Engineering program, which is in the planning stage, although formal approval has not yet been received. The new program will have an emphasis on sustainability and will initially be located administratively in the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria offers B.Eng., M.Eng., M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. programs. The Department has 22 faculty members including three Canada Research Chairs, and 96 graduate students. The Department is known for its strong research programs in broad areas with a large number of research personnel and visiting researchers.
